CALL FOR PAPERS

Conference Theme:

Ethics, Resilience, and Sustainability:
Elements of Learning Focussed School Leadership

Ethics, resilience and sustainability are among the elements of authentic educational leadership that are increasingly appropriate to our times. More than ever there is a need for genuinely authentic leadership for improving our schools, colleges and universities. We are identifying these three sub-themes as a structure for our continuing discussion of authentic leadership, ethics and moral literacy. We also invite the submission of titles and abstracts for papers that align with these themes.

These social circumstances constitute a challenge to scholars as much as they do to practitioners, and highlight a number of issues worthy of attention for those of us interested in promoting authentic leadership practices in relation to the conference theme Ethics, Resilience, and Sustainability: Elements of Learning Focussed School Leadership
This year we are interested in receiving paper and presentation proposals focused on the following sub-themes.

1. Leadership for learning with moral purpose – the new instructional leadership
2. Defining and serving the needs of all students through learning focussed school leadership.
3. Educational accountability systems for learning focussed school leadership.
4. Leadership resilience in support of learning focused school leadership.
5. Leadership for sustainability in relationships, organizations, communities and the environment.
6. Resources for research, professional development and practice in support of leadership embracing the core concepts of ethical, resilience and sustainable practices.

Proposal Deadline
Acceptance of proposal submissions began January 1st 2010 and the deadline for submission of proposals for review is May 15th 2010. Notice of acceptance will be communicated no later than May 30th.

How to Submit for Values 2010
All proposals for Values2010 must be submitted before May 15th to Values2010@pol.umu.se

Alternate Conference Session Formats

Papers

A Paper is submitted by one author plus up to three co-authors. Papers are oral presentations lasting 15 – 20 minutes and will be scheduled in 90 minutes sessions which will normally include 3 - 4 papers on similar themes. You will be able to list two of the authors as presenting authors. A chairperson for each session will manage time and discussion.

Posters
Posters are graphical presentations which will be displayed during the whole conference and presented during two special Poster Sessions. A Poster is submitted by one author plus up to three co-authors. Presenters will be asked to be available at the two Poster sessions to answer questions from other conference delegates. You will be informed on the format and size of the poster when your presentation is accepted.

Research Workshops
A Research Workshop focuses on methodological topics and may involve practical activity. Workshops are submitted by one author plus up to five co-authors. Normally one session (90 minutes) is scheduled for a workshop and presenters will be asked to manage/chair their session.

Round Tables
A Round Table usually involves three or four short presentations linked by theme. Presenters should plan one hour for the presentation and discussion afterwards.

Symposia
Symposia consist of a 90 minute conference session organized by the submitters. They usually include 3 – 5 papers per session plus a Discussant. A symposium consists of a minimum of 3 papers. In order to guarantee an international perspective, at least two different national perspectives must be represented within the papers presented in the symposium. The proposal for a symposium needs to be handed in as one submission with a description of the symposium (500 words) and a list of all abstracts for all papers linked to it (100 word abstract per paper). A Chairperson and a Discussant must be identified as part of the proposal.

Guidelines for Writing a Proposal Abstract

Proposals for conference sessions are welcome from all fields of educational research but should align in some way with conference themes. All proposals must be submitted electronically as Word .doc file attachments to Values2010@pol.umu.se
The submission may be as short as 200 words but not exceed a maximum of 1000 words, plus references. The following should be included:

- Title of proposal
- Authors(s) of proposal including affiliations and email addresses
- General description of research questions, objectives and theoretical framework
- Methods/methodology
- Expected Outcomes/results

You need to indentify all contributing authors along with their affiliations and email addresses as part of the proposal, and clearly specify who will be presenting. Please take care in providing accurate information; mis-spellings and missing email addresses may mean that co-authors are not correctly linked to all their contributions.

PLEASE SEND PAPER PROPOSALS BY MAY 15, 2010 TO:
